Got home this evening with two 30 gallon garbage cans worth of grass chippings from a co-worker, so its compost time.
Pulled the mower out of the shed and ground up 3-4 of the bags of leaves I had collected in the fall, mixed those with the chippings, gave them a drink and piled them up. Will probably be steaming in the morning. Love compost.
Also spread and leveled the rest of the planting beds, including the wife's 'Flower' bed, as she has been buying flower seed.

I have 7 bags of leaves sitting out in the garden. Now, if I could only find the lawnmower ;-)
My compost isn't working so well. It's most veg peelings so I figure I need some twigs but I don't have any. Damn this green/brown balance!
TIG can use some shredded paper for his browns, since he has no twigs or leaves. This advise is coming from the world's greatest compost failure ;-)
Paper such as newspaper, bills, paper towels, tissues can be composted but it should be shredded first. Avoid adding glossy and highly coloured papers. Stiff cardboard should be broken into small pieces or made into a slurry before it's added to the pile.
Wait...did Granny say I can compost my bills? ....that's awesome...I would have never thought of it. :)
As Granny said, shredded paper make a good brown in the compost pile, just make sure of the ink. The inks used in the states are nontoxic (no heavy metals) but I'm not sure of the inks used in Europe.
